Picked up the SQ-64 as “a nice and not to expensive way to extend drum patterns on the TR-8S “. The TR-8S has no song mode and although you have 8 pattern variations per track, you cannot program it to play for example 4x pattern A then 2x D, 3x G and so on. With the SQ64 you have 16 slots of each up to 64 steps per pattern. This is A LOT more then the 16 steps per pattern on the TR-8S. Of course you could just record all of your patterns into a DAW and arrange the clips in arrangement view, but it would be nice to try this with the Korg. The SQ-64 is in essence a 3 part + drum kit sequencer, setting everything up was more of a challenge as I thought but eventually it was set up just under a 2hrs figuring out how the Korg editor software refuses to actually send anything to the Korg. Setting the unit up on the unit itself was/is the only way to do it, on Mac OS anyway. I’ll have to test it out on Windows whenever I find the time for it. In the mean while I contacted Korg, and got a reaction within 24hrs. The response was that we have to wait until an update is available. I hope this happens BEFORE the next Mac OS update to 15.0 ;) .
